The Foiling Process
Full highlights at MAK Salon take 2.5 to 4 hours depending on hair length and thickness. The process involves sectioning the hair and placing thin strands into foils with lightener. The number of foils, the lightener formula, and the processing time are all customized for your hair.
After processing, your stylist tones the highlights to the exact shade you discussed during your consultation. Toning neutralizes any unwanted warmth and creates the cool, warm, or neutral tone you are looking for. A glaze can be added for extra shine.
Maintaining Your Highlights
Full highlights typically need a touchup every 8 to 10 weeks. Between appointments, use sulfate-free shampoo and a purple shampoo once a week if you have blonde highlights. Westchester's hard water can cause blonde highlights to shift brassy. A chelating shampoo once a week helps prevent this.
